We face enormous challenges. Small businesses and charities are struggling to survive through the deepest and longest recession since the 19th Century. This is bad for jobs and bad for communities.
People are also growing older. We are fortunate that when somebody retires today they can expect to live another 20 years. But our attitudes towards older age are much the same as when the state pension was first introduced and only 40% of people were expected to see their 64th birthday.
At Wisdom Well we see these challenges as an opportunity to radically transform the way we work. Our ambition is to connect the talent of the 1.3m people aged over 65 with the 171,000 charities and 4.5m small businesses facing big challenges. We want to achieve this by working in a new way that values the contribution experienced professionals can continue to make.
It’s not quite consultancy and it’s not quite volunteering. We connect older people to charities and small businesses for highly skilled project work. For older people this provides the opportunity to carry on using their skills to make a difference. For small businesses and charities it provides flexible and affordable access to the professional skills they need to help their organisation to grow.
